Mulling over changes at GW HQ!

When we were visiting Warhammer World for our Doubles event in February we noticed that some of the GW bosses were taking a tour with some architects and wondered what it could hold for the future of the venue. Looks like the cats out of the bag!

Extreme Makeover: Storm Raven Edition - Part 2

Hey Dudes,

Thought I'd post up a quick update as to the progress of my 'Phoenix Pattern Storm Eagle'

Thursday 27 March 2014

Rich's Thursday Ramble : Perseverance.

Okay, a confession first.
I couldn't think of a topic for this weeks ramble.
Until...

Cleaning Ogres

Just a quick to show the Ogres slow march to war!
I'm keeping the arms and heads off until I've had a few practise games to make sure I'm choosing the correct comination of units, particularly with the characters. Looking forward to my first game on Friday 11th April.

Extreme Makeover: Storm Raven Edition - Part 1

Selam!

Following Friday nights game I decided a Storm Eagle would be a solid acquisition for my heresy force.

I had a dilemma, however. Not only did i already own a Storm Raven kit (which has seen play few enough times to be able to count on one hand, including Fridays proxying!) but having looked up the construction process for the Storm Eagle I wasn't over-fussed about dropping much cash on acquiring one only to have an utter ballache putting it together.

There was only one real solution...

Monday musings on the limited nature of products.

So as anyone with an internet connection will know, the new scenery product put up by GW was a limited edition product (1000 only). And sold out in 2hrs! At £65 a pop and sold direct through GW that has to be a high-five moment come Monday morning at Lenton. But my Monday musing is this: is this type of product good for the industry?

Going big...then going home

Played a 4500 point heresy game vs Tom last night (with some proxying to get us up to that points level).
My Emperors Children vs Iron warriors and some Legio Cybernetica.

Which meant I got to give Fulgrim his first run out.

I'll dump the photos after the jump...

Richs Thursday Ramble: X-Wing

Hejsan!

Following a few bits of news on this front this week, I decided to focus on the X-Wing miniatures game for this weeks ramble.

Mulling over nerd herding!

So a quick post today as I have been very busy catching up with real life this weekend and (almost) forgot it was Monday!

How many games is too many? I started typing this out as an open letter about Descent but I've decided to instead tackle the real issue behind by frustration witj Journeys into the Dark.

We as gamers are collectors as much as players so how can we judge whrn we have hit the sweet spot with our collections and when we have gone too far?

I say this because when I find it hard to get out some quality games I start to wonder if I have too many? When was the last time we played Battlestar? What games do you have that you really want yo play more of but seem to keep leaving in the cupboard?

Or are we just too spread out/busy to be able play regularly and therefore knock out a variety of games?

Playing Escalation

Happy Sunday Gents!

Myself and Anthony spent yesterday at Tabletop and decided to have a crack at a 2500 point game of 40K using the Escalation rules so Ant could finally field his Stompa.

Read on for more!

Richs Thursday Ramble: Kill Team: Part 2: The Revengening

Hot off the back of the weekends Kill Team tournament I thought I'd explore the format a little deeper, using nothing but the power of my words and brainthoughts!

Maintaining a positive Monday attitude!

Having come back from Dark Sphere with a fair few new models and a healthy new respect for bikes in Kill Team, one might expect that would be the subject of this weeks post but instead I'm going to mull over a different topic. Have GW killed off our their customers excitement for conversions?

Playing Kill Team at Dark Sphere

As you've no doubt seen from Mr P's live blogging from yesterday, we managed to get in on Darkspheres 1 day kill team tournament. Primarily to have a few games back to back of the format but also to check out their new venue.

Rounds two and three!

Rich won his second game against marine bikes! And Will beat off some nids! Round three saw me play Will and Rich on table one against my opponent from round one. After a tense game with the worst combat ever between two limp-wristed Destroyers (forever known as ticklers from now on) and a ciuple of guard going 7 rounds of combat before anything significant happened. We managed a 5 all draw.
Rich is still playing, it's looking tense!
Ps the first photo is Will's vet plasma gunner ambyshung my leader only to shoit himself in the face even after re-rolling his initial one to hit!

Attending Dark Sphere's killteam tourney!

So we made it on time and started rolling dice but who came out on top in round 1?
Not me! I tool my 5 Destroyers and was paired with a really nice Italian chap called Francesco who also had Necrons, except his were 5 warriors, 5 Immortals and a Wraith. As it turns out being abke to roll 6+ go to ground saves and 5+ reanimation is big game in kill team and I lost 5-0.
Rich has taken 8 Dark Eldar jetbikes and was paired against the Codex Eldar mirror. He won 5-0 as being abke to cut your opponents head off whilst you turbo boost away tends to wear an opponent down.
Will's game was close against a white scar bike list. I'll let him tell rhe story of that one.
Currentky sitting out round two on a bye (so an auto win with an average points of all the other winning players so can't end the event on zero!)
Here are some images of the current round two games.

Rich's Thursday Ramble : 30K vs 40K

Howdy Folks!

Its Thursday again already so here is my latest little discussion topic for the week, are Space Marine Legion armies unbalanced when used outside of the context of heresy only play?

This is something that came up a few times during the Devastation Doubles Weekender and it did make me stop and ponder the topic. I'm going to put forth a few f my own thoughts on the matter and would love to hear any of the thoughts on it that the rest of you have.

Monday 3 March 2014

Updating 40k counters.

Having considered painting symbols etc on to my Necron Destroyers in preperation for Dark Sphere's Kill Team tournament on Saturday I finally realised it would be easier to simply update my 40k counter collection to include the Kill Team options
So many counters...

As you can see I slightly underestimated just how many special rules you have access to in Kill Team. Never the less it is done and I can now field any of the options at the drop of a hat (alsi saves me having to try to remember which model is which between rounds!).

As a quick side note this is a rather unpleasent material to clean after laser cutting as the smell lingers and is rather sticky until washed with soap. But they do like nice!

Mulling over Monday musings.

Rich taking over Thursdays I have decided to take in Mondays. So what will it be this week? With the rumours of Fantasy 9th Edition only a few months away I decided to start putting to gather my Mantic Ogres.

Not a full review but a quick musing. The first think I noticed was that the plastic is a lot harder than GW plastic and therefore makes removing the mould lines a lot harder. It also mens you can't use Plastic cement (a serious flaw for me as using super glue means that the joints are brittle, increasing the chances of the model breaking in future).

As far as the model design I really like the look of the models but I have a serious problem with the double-handed options.

No option for two hand weapons but the shields and swords fit perfectly.
The guns fit together (just) with a little fiddling. Some gaps but it shouldn't take much filling.
This option is so badly designed that the arms do not fit the body, they are too wide...
...so wide I had to pin the whole thing together and this is how much of a gap that was still left!
As you can see from the photos above there is a serious design flaw with the double-handed weapons. I've tried each weapon on each of the bodies and there is no combination that works. It really is such a great shame as I was really excited about putting these models together and it's looking like it's going to be a lot more complex than expected. It reminded me of trying to put together the old GW metals.

So hear's this Monday's Musing - How awkward does a model have to be to put together before you give up? Have we been spoiled by the quality of the recent GW products that we no expect everything to be super simple to put together?
