Building beasts of Nurgle.

So I finally got around to putting together the beast of Nurgle models I bought from Titan Forge at Essen so I thought I do a quick review, but how well will they compare to the GW kits?

Friday 13 December 2013

Booking

I was walking home through Romford Wednesday so stopped in GW and picked up stronghold assault. Read on for my thoughts...

Filling Battlefoam!

I love and hate Black Friday as it brings Battlefoam's 25% discount weekend and I just can't resist getting something. So what did I pick up this year?

Playing 40k!

Rob popped over for a game of 40k and as we haven't played in a while it was nice to take to dust off the Guard and see if I can still roll an outrageous amount of Carapace saves for my Guardsmen. So who will take the midweek 40k crown, Guard or Orks?

Demon Cycle review

This is a quick (no spoilers) review of Peter V Brett's books in the Demon Cycle. It started off as a trilogy but seems to have become so popular that are rolling it out as a series.

So will you be tempted to give it a try? Let's find out!

Those minis look pretty good, and theyve said there will be clear plastic variant models for the predators.

Revisiting Netrunner and a meetup.com

Happy Friday, Chaps!

Its been quite some time since i posted anything, truth be told its been quite some time since I've really hobbied (hobbyd?) much. But the interest has been rekindled somewhat in the past week or 2.

Monday 28 October 2013

Going to Essen!

This past weekend saw four of the E.L.F boys taking the quick plane trip across to Germany to attend Spiel '13, THE convention for those who love their board games.
But how would we cope such a large event with most of the attendees/exhibitors speaking German?
It was really late Thursday night when we hit Essen and the boys decided to play a game of 'Tickle Nic' to pass the time as we waited for the train.
WARNING: There are a lot of pictures and videos in this post.

Learning Dreadball!

Having played a few games of Dreadball at the week end I finally found the time to crank out a few counters for the game. Just wanted some quick feed back. The all white or the transparent? Which is most interesting?

Sunday 29 September 2013

Reading White Dwarf and reviewing its first year of the new format.

With the release of this months White Dwarf we have reached the twelve month mark of the new White Dwarf magazine (alright technically it was last month they released the 12th issue but it was Gamesday last year they launched the new look). I thought I'd jot down a few thoughts on how I feel the year has gone.

Trying to paint infinity

I've been trying to get back and finish and/or start some of my infinity minis painted and im finding it a bit difficult so far.

Trying out Dread Ball

So I had the chance to get in a practice game of Dread Ball in last night and whilst I'm sure that I'll have played some of the rules incorrectly (it is me after all) I think that I have enough of them down now that I can give a quick review.
You really need to play lengthways for the game to work, your feel as though you are actually 'rushing' at  the opposition.

Playin Games

Just a quickie.
Popped to tabletop the other night with the intention of getting in a game of Dreadball and Infinity, ended up getting involved in a six player game of Lords of Waterdeep with the expansion.
I think this would go down VERY well with our group.
Im not sure if any of yous have looked into it before, but its a worker placement game, youre playing as one of the Lords of Waterdeep and have a few minions to send out to complete tasks, recruit different minions to aid you in quests. Come the end of the game, your ID card gives you some bonuses for having completed more of a certain type of quest or task.
you end up having quite a few irons in the fire and as other players can beat you to certain resources each turn you have to have a bit of risk v reward going on in when you take the bits you need.
As it turned out, id rinsed so many of the quests my ID was most interested in at the end of the game, i leapfrogged from 4th to first. Ace! Debut win.

Enjoying the new Marine codex.

I took the plunge on Saturday to buy the new Space marine Codex and have been giving it a good go over to see how much better it is than my current Blood Angel Codex. So just how much extra can I get?

Revisiting Infinity

Morning fellow geeks!

So, recently i decided to go back and have a proper crack at learning Infinity. I picked up a force for myself earlier this year, started painting it and played 3 or 4 games but found it a little tricky to get the hang of. Other gaming things got in the way and infinity ended up on the back burner. But i came across the models and my unbuilt terrain while tidying stuff up in my man cave and decided to give it another crack. The terrain is now built and being painted and the models i picked up for my 150 point starter force are on the painting table glaring at me.

Friday 16 August 2013

Making more models.

A quick one today as I took the opportunity this afternoon to put together the Firestorm Redoubt that accompanied my other presents. Just like the other models it comes off sprue with the rules in the box.

The box is pretty full, so you can see why you wouldn't want to add the sprues in and need a bigger box.

Wednesday 14 August 2013

Constructing birthday models.

One of the great things about having a birthday in the middle of the summer holidays is that I always get time to enjoy my presents! It's year has been no exception and I have been constructing some of the models bought for me by the boys in E.L.F. Today will be a review of GW's recent release, the Vengeance Battery. It's is a kit which I saw and thought looked interesting but would probably never have got around to buying for myself as I failed to take advantage of the Wall of Martyrs bundle deal when it first came out and always seem to find something more urgent to spend my gaming money on (Nurgle Daemons, expansions to board games, you guys know the feeling). So how did I get on with this kit? Was there anything innovative or more slightly expensive but pretty scenery from GW?

Tuesday 13 August 2013

Pondering the Dreadnought

Was sitting painting some Emperors Children bits into the wee small hours last night, one of which was a contemptor dread, and it got me pondering what could make them worth taking in regular games of 40k?

These few bits crossed my mind, im pretty sure i've read or chatted about some of these with people previously but i thought it might be an interesting discussion point anyhow.

A) Give them 4 Hull Points.
Fairly simple one. They do seem to die a bit too quickly for the their points compared to the damage they chuck out. I'm not overly sold on this one as it puts them on par with other 6th ed powerhouses as land raiders and of course ORK BATTLEWAGONS. yarp.

B) Give them the option of swapping their attacks for a sweep attack that hits everyone in base contact at its base strength with AP-. Bit niche, but stops them getting bogged down in combat vs rubbish blobs.

C) Make them characters so they can issue challenges. I kinda like this one, i reckon theyre a lot less likely to get donged in assault by a tac squad if you can either choose to hit them with the sarges weapon OR krak grenades rather than both. And if they dont accept the squad is more likely to leg it.

Any one else got any thoughts? Another one i considered is upping them to 3 attacks base.

Neat Idea!

Hi guys, i was recently reading through someones project log and they mentioned they ahd made up some cards for warlord traits to help them remember, this struck me as a fantastic idea and figured someone out there must have had the same thought, after a little digging i found this:

http://www.40kforums.com/vb/showthread.php/39786-Warlord-Trait-cards

Top stuff!

They do require a little bit of work to finish off, but ive got the tools to do so, so as im doing a batch of eldar ones and dark eldar combat drugs for myself, does anyone else have any requests for warlord trait sets?

I'll add the rules text, print em off and sleeve em up, let me know in the comments.

Racing tiny plastic cars!

So Wednesday night board games night at the Missing Geek brought a new game to the table for me, Formula D. Now I have had an on/off love affair with Formula 1 racing so went into this one with some trepidation. I have heard really good reviews from some of the podcasts I've listened to but could it live up to the hype?

Playing with the wife!

No calm down it's not a post about marital relations but a review of Hey, that's my Fish! I played against Amanda (one of the reasons I picked it up was that she really liked the look of it and that doesn't happen very often!). But the question is was it £10 well spent or another game I can't get the wife to play?

Hey, that's my new game!

Wednesday 17 July 2013

A quick game night review.

Hi guys just a quick one to update on the status of Games night at the local store. I failed in my documentation of last weeks games night but it was very fun and I managed to get The Resistance and Quarriors played (the store owner liked Quarriors so much he got some copies in to sell!). The Resistance was very fun and I'll do a full review after I next get it out, though I did get to play it at 5, 6, 7 & 8 players so got a decent feel for it. Quarriors was it's usual fun self even despite the most epic four player ever when nearly all the creatures had been bought form the wilds and every turn each players monsters were just slammed into oblivion.

This week saw a bit of Galaxy Trucker (I GM'ed to help the flow) and most of the players seemed to get into the spirit of it by the end so I was very happy. The next game was Muchkin which I'm growing to enjoy more as I become more familiar with the cards and care more about just messing with the other players than focusing on winning out right. Finally I played my first ever game of Pandemic which I'll also have to play again before fully reviewing but I will say that it was a lot quicker than I thought it was and is quite fun once you embrace to pure co-op nature of the players turns and focus on just beating those pesky diseases!

Oh and I picked up a copy of Hey, that's my Fish as Amanda had been eyeing it up and Nic had said how good it was on the iPad (it's only £10 but there is almost nothing in the box, it's going to win the award for most over packaged game ever!).

Friday 12 July 2013

Finally taking a proper pasting

Got another game in against toms chaos marines last night with a new variant of my eldar/dark eldar

Saturday 6 July 2013

Playing 40k in the summer sun!

With the hottest weekend of the year coming up Will and I couldn't resist a BBQ and a few games of 40k! So it was Daemons vs Guard one game against Khorne (with me taking the Guard) and one against Nurgle (with Will marshalling the imperial troops). So who came out on top? And could the Guard avoid being ripped to bits by their owner?

The Blood God's Horde advance!

Hobby Photo Friday

Woop, its friday! Thought id share a few hobby updates and pics with ya'll.

Wednesday 3 July 2013

Playing games at The Missing Geek games night!

So having just discovered my new games store I ventured down to crack open my new copy of Smash Up in the hope there would be an opportunity to get a game in. So was it worth the trip, were there other people to play and if so was the game any good?

Sunday 30 June 2013

Finding new places to play!

In the spirit of finding new opportunities to play more games, Amanda and I stumbled upon a new games store just around the corner from us! The Missing Geek in Staines is the smallest games store I have ever been in but the owner of the store Alan is a really nice guy  who is running Wednesday and Friday night gaming (open gaming on Wednesdays, Magic on a Friday). Whilst it's currently a very intimate setting (smaller than my kitchen I think), he will be moving it to a much larger venue as soon as he can hammer out a deal that won't cripple him. This means that I can hopefully get a some regular weekly gaming in as Amanda is very found of the Running club on Wednesdays. I bought a copy of Smash Up which I'm hopefully going to take along this Wednesday but Amanda and I played a game of the DC Deck builder  so I thought I'd give it a swift review.

Quick over view - You are a hero (I was Batman!) and you are collecting/defeating Villians, Super Powers, Equipment and Locations from the centre pool of five cards. Your heros ability pushes you towards a particular resource (Batman loves equipment, Superman the powers etc) so their is a fair amount of variety. The timer is a stack of Super Villains (not to be confused with the basic villains) and once they are all defeated you total up the value of the cards in your deck and the highest is the winner (much like all the other deck builders).

Things I liked:
- The theme is really strong as whilst Batman can get X-ray vision he works so much better with a stack of equipment like his bat signal and cape & cowl.
- The Villains attack meaning there is an extra layer to managing your deck so that you can have the cards with defence abilities to stop you getting owned by a player (Amanda as Wonderwoman, no we didn't pick characters it just happened!) who loves collecting/defeating Villains.
- The art work is of course amazing!

Things that made me go hmm:
- As with all deck builders the level of analysis paralysis can bog the game down some what as the abilities begin to trip off each other (which is fun to watch the first few times) or just understanding which card to buy as some do rather complex things (yes Riddler I'm looking at you!).
- If you've payed any deck building game then you'll pick this up in a flash (ok, half a pun intended) which leaves me wondering at the games longevity.

I won't score it until I've played some more and am tempted to get it as I'd rather play it than Ascension but wonder if deck building is just better on the tablet devices?

Sunday Musings

Just a quickie to get a few thoughts down.

Wednesday 26 June 2013

Playing again

Popped over to Toms last night for a rematch vs his Space Wolves.

It went a bit better than the first game.

Sunday 23 June 2013

Watching Man of Steel.

Just a quick one to review the latest DC cinematic offering. The Nolan Batman trilogy has set the bar pretty high so could Superman's latest offering live up to the hype?

Playing games on a Friday night!

With only a wwek left of June it was about time we got together for a Friday Night Gaming session (and BBQ thanks to Will!). Unfortunately I only remembered to photograph my first game, probably something to do with the amount of cider I had. First up was a game of 40k where I pitted my Guard against Rich's new Eldar. Could I possibly end my non-winning record?

Wednesday 12 June 2013

Playing actual games...

So i've actually managed to squeeze in 3 games in a week with the new eldar book. I thought i'd follow up my original post with some fresh thoughts after seeing the units in action on the table.

Sunday 9 June 2013

Making Plague Drones and lists!

Last Saturday I got my hands on a box of Nurgle Plague Drones and have today finished constructing them. I thought I'd give a quick review of the kit as I was rather critical of parts of it when it was first released but have my opinions changed now that I have had time to see them first hand?
Who could resist the chance to sit in the sun and put models together?

Thursday 6 June 2013

Basing models.

Just a quick one today to show that I've finally finished my Guard and to share a quick tip on putting snow on to bases.
Finally, no more counts as!

Tuesday 4 June 2013

Reading and Brewing..

So for those unaware (unlikely) Codex: Eldar was released the weekend just gone. Thought id post up a few initial thoughts for those that are mildly curious but not read the book, and a new eldar/dark eldar list i'll be trying first chance i get.

Wednesday 29 May 2013

Dipping!

Just a quick one today to put up a picture of the amazing cosmetic altering powers of Dip (no not crisp enhancing sauces, Army Painter miniature shading solution). I know most people are probably already converts but just in case I thought this photo might help convince others to give it a go:

Yes I've put them the wrong way round for a before and after shot!
As you can see the models were only base coated in simple block colours apart from the blue lens/gems and they look seriously bad. Then one quick trip to dip town and they look pretty boss for the amount of time it took to paint them. It does take a little experimentation and care to fully remove the excess and it takes about 24 hrs to fully dry (and man does it smell), but I'd still be painting the guard army without it as it 's also a varnish meaning all these lovely metal models don't chip anywhere nearly as much as normal.

It can also be painted over afterwards to achieve more dramatic highlighting effects (see Lee's daemons for a great use of this technique) and the Army builder stuff alone comes in three tones so with some experimentation you can get a variety of outcomes on the same base colours.

Now just need to base them and my Guard will finally be WYSIWYG for 6th Ed!

Sunday 26 May 2013

Exploring the world of one player gaming.

So I found my self with a few hours to kill this afternoon and as the sun was shining and I'd opened a bottle of cider I thought I'd enjoy the benefits of having a conservatory and play a game in the sun*. Unfortunately I found myself sans any other willing participants so I decided to try out Mice and Mystics as a one player game.

In all it's glory (see I told you it was sunny!)

But was it a satisfying gaming experience or is there good reason for people pooring scorn upon the single player options?

*Yes I know I have a lot to paint but I also have a rule that says I can't paint after I've started drinking (I don't discuss how this rule came into be being).

Wednesday 22 May 2013

Painting gold!

Do you find that when you start a project/job/chore you'll do almost any other project/job/chore to avoid dealing with a big decision or mental block? I definitely do and I have used this personality flaw to my advantage by avoiding making a decision on how to paint my Plaguebearers by painting my Blood Angel Captain.

I'd like to pretend this is the first stage but it's actually the third! Thank god it's only one model.
I've leant quite a few things from just painting this much so far, lets find out what they are.

Saturday 18 May 2013

Writing a review for Who!

Just watched the final episode of the current series of Dr Who and decided to do a quick write up.

Straight off the bat tonights episode, The Name of the Doctor, was by far the best of the series, though as we will quickly establish this wasn't hard.

So if you haven't watched it and want to avoid spoilers do not keep reading.

making sticky sticks!

Well, sticky paint sticks but that didn't have the same ring to it!

This is the stickiest stick I've ever seen, four sides of carpet tape!

Just a quick post to point out how much I am enjoying putting together my Nurgle army and  how much easier it is to use a stick when priming models.

Monday 13 May 2013

trying to motivate

Got twentyish emperors children marines on my paint station queue at the moment, not having too much bother getting the base coating done, really struggling to get motivated to do the finicky gold bits however.
Anyone got any motivational tips for when theyre struggling with some detail work?

Sunday 12 May 2013

Scraping and gluing Daemons

Thanks to a very generous present the previous weekend I found myself in possession of all the new plastic Plaguebearers I need to get my Daemon army up and running.

I say running, some of them look like they are half way through falling over!

So how long does it take to make 40 Daemons?

Friday 10 May 2013

winging it

Having picked up a couple of TIE interceptors at salute, i was in the market for some TIE fighters and the x-wing dice. as the combined price for 2 fighters and dice blister was pushing £30 (if you can even find them!), i figured i might as well pick up the starter for £24 and get all that and more.

Toddled along to tabletop Tuesday just gone, got the starter (i was hoping to get more expansions but theyre literally 100% sold out of everything except the starters and big ships)

cracked my starter and borrowed a 3rd interceptor to get a 100 point game in (forgot to photo it, sorry). Lost an interceptor early to a Wedge cluster missile volley, tre nasty. Managed to down a Y-wing but couldnt finish off the other a-wing or x-wing before they did for me. They both lost their shields and took a hit though.

Thoughts and musings so far:
props:
I like that, despite only having played roughly 3 games (2 games and 2 kinda half games), i feel like i know how to play the game. id be quite happy sitting down teaching someone else the ropes already. and ive not even read the rulebook yet. I cant think of many games you can say that about.

Slops:
Being a staunch Imperialist, i tend to have more ships in the air than the rebels do. As such, im currently really struggling to stop my ships humping each other in conga lines, mucking up my plans and preventing them using their actions. purely a case of the learning curve being slightly higher for Imperials i think.

Looking forward to playing it again soon though.

Sunday 28 April 2013

Trying to paint more models.

Just  a quick one this time to show off the start of my new Captain model as he gets his base coat for his shiny new armour.

I'm trying out the paint pot stand technique to help me avoid touching the model whilst I paint it. Also hope that it still goes together properly once it is painted (the bikes have left me sceptical).

Tuesday 23 April 2013

Finishing what I started so long ago.

Yes that's right I have finally finished the bikes I've been painting. Well I say finished, is anything really finished or do we just give up improving things once they hit a tolerable level?

Reading the FAQs

New FAQs are up,

not looked at everything yet, but heres a few bits and bobs that piqued my interest:

1) Dark Eldar Reavers.
Reaver bladebane attacks now operate the same way as tzeentch screamers. allocating hits treating the final position of the reavers as the direction of the attack. Finally! Randomising it never made ANY sense.

2) Valkyrie/Vendetta
Valkyries and vendettas have had scout removed. Does this mean they now cant outflank? Curious.

3) Fantasy Battle Overruns.
In the previous BRB FAQ for fantasy, they stated if a unit wins combat against daemons or undead and the daemon/undead unit lost its remaining models from instability, the unit that won combat couldnt perform an overrun. I liked this and was looking forward to taking advantage of it sometime. Except theyve done a 180 in the new FAQ and now the winning unit CAN overrun. Weird.

Legion Blood Feuding...

Met up with Tom last night to try our hand at a 2000 point legion list battle using the rules in HH:Betrayal.

Took a little while to sort out our lists (its quite a hefty book), but eventually got down to business and decided to use one of the scenarios from the betrayal campaign, Blood Feud.

Sunday 24 March 2013

Attempting to quash a rogue psyker

Took a little jaunt along to tabletop yesterday with dave, will & lee.

Played a 5000 point doubles game based around the narrative of the imperium attempting to quash the last bastion of a renegade imperial standing army lead by a rogue psyker he summons backup in the form of
chaos daemons.

Warning! pic heavy.

Monday 18 March 2013

Reading a book..

Had a couple of hours to kill in Canterbury city centre the other Saturday while waiting for the little lady, ended up picking up 'Path of the Incubus' by one Andy Chambers to kill time reading over a nutty latte.

Not so much going to review the book other than to say i did enjoy it, particularly getting a closer look at the dark city, its denizens and other goings on.
However, bearing in mind ive not picked up a black library novel since mechanicum, one thing that particularly struck me that i hadnt noticed in the older novels was the rather embarrassing amount of typos that slipped through the proof reading.
Has this been going on for a while? Or were the early HH novels equally as guilty but i just hadnt noticed?

Sunday 17 March 2013

Finishing painting jobs (sort of)

I have finally organised myself enough to sit down and finish off the Blood Angel biker helmets. Yeah I know, seriously poor effort on my part but with all the Rugby and new rules/codex to go through (not to mention actual work!) I just haven't felt in the mood to sit down and get it done until now.
Before you mention it I realise I have lots more to finish on them...

Sunday 3 March 2013

Reading the new Daemon codex!

So with four members of the regular gaming group having a single god Daemon army this weekends release saw four of us rushing out to get our hands on the new book to be able to work out exactly how our armies have changed. Will Slaanesh still rule the roost of mono-god games? Will the new rules make an all Nurgle list possible? Let's discuss.

Saturday 23 February 2013

Reading the new White Dwarf

Just received the new White Dwarf through the post and have given a read. We are now six months into the new style magazine but how does it measure up? Has it improved since last month and does it excite me for the release of yet another 40k Codex? Let's find out!

Tuesday 19 February 2013

Cash from the Skies..

So death from the skies is already sold out and due for a 2nd print run. How small was that first run? or has it really sold that well?

By all accounts the stormtalon entry is an edit on the original with a lower points cost, making it so anyone using one kinda needs this book. Cynical indeed.

Although the IBooks edition of marines has got all the updates apparently.

So are folks thinking of picking a copy up when it restocks in a few weeks?

in other news, ive already started cracking on with my mountain of resin.

cataphractis look SO BADASS.

cant wait to take a brush to them.

Monday 18 February 2013

Monday Quickie

Quick aside to start with, were you aware you didnt finish publishing your 'end of the weekend' post?
EDIT: and you made me look a goon by posting it while i was writing! Doh!

Anyhoo!

Attending E.L.F's Crusade Campaign Weekend!

So we've just finished off E.L.F's annual gaming weekend and this year it a pre-Heresy Doubles event!
Rich was actually losing at this point, that's how much he enjoyed the event!

Saturday 9 February 2013

Making preparations for next weekend.

Well I've finally undercoated my first megarachnid, with less than a week to go! But enough about my hobby failures I've finally managed to produce the draw for the rounds for next weekend. It's been trickier than I had expected to ensure everyone played with/against each other and everyone used each army the correct number of times (one of my many excuses for not getting painting done).

So here they are:

Wednesday 6 February 2013

Playing again...

Played a couple of games of infinity last night, made me realise i really need to read the rulebook. But it was good fun nevertheless. And the new infinity terrain boards theyve got at TTN are pretty freakin sweet. as these pics will show!!

Monday 4 February 2013

Gaming when i should be painting...

Headed over to Toms Saturday for some games, squeezed in a 1500 point battle of my Emperors Children Blood Angels vs Toms Iron Warrior Chaos Marines.

The armies were roughly as follows:

Friday 1 February 2013

its february already!?! aww fudge.

Come on, hands up, how many of us are fully ready for crusade?

Ive still gotta finish 3 assault marines, build and paint 5 more. Finish the eldar and assemble my terrain piece.
In two weeks.
yeah, do-able. but will i do it?

Wednesday 30 January 2013

Sculpting alien spider bits.

With the days dripping by like water from a leaky tap I'm ramping up my efforts to finish the megarachnids. I realised I would need to fill in some of the gaps on my Tyranofex and I'd have to add mouth parts to my standard Megarachnids. Green stuffing is much like painting in that it takes some time to get back up to speed with the techniques you have used in the past. And so it has been on=ver the last few nights as I have tentatively begaun my work.
These two images are for Rich as I managed to get a bit closer with the camera this time.

Skirmishing..

Recently toddled along to tabletop nation to observe a couple of 'first tries' of Infinity.
Read on for first impressions and a few pics!

Sunday 27 January 2013

On a table even longer ago...this time against Charlie

1500 point Tyranids (Will) Vs Chaos Deamons w/Chaos Marine allies (Charlie) Mission: The Emperor’s Will (home base objectives)
Set up: Hammer and Anvil

So Charlie came over a few weeks ago for a game of sixth to hone his list for the GW tournament would fare against my nids. I don’t have Charlie’s army list to hand but it was something like:

Lord of change
Deamon prince
3x6 squads of horrors
3x3 flamers
5 marines with rhino
Predator with TL las cannon
Flying demon dragon
Soul grinder

My list was:

Tyranid Prime
Tervigon
3 x30 gaunts
3 hive guard
Trygon
Trygon prime

On a table a long time ago....

1500 point Imperial guard (Will) Vs Dark Eldar w/ Craftworld Editor allies (Rich)
Mission: Crusade (4 objectives)
Set up: Dawn of War

Rich popped over for a day of gaming and we managed to get in two games of 40k. As my tyranids were over at Lees I pulled out my imperial guard for the first time for 6th edition. I hadn’t used my guard against Rich before as my spamming of chimeras is not fun for Eldar players. Rich, being a game fellow, said he would give it a try.

Playing some 40k

Right just had a game, my iron warriors vs nics bike army. We tried out a list I had come up with for the Dark Angels ravenwing.
All I can say is, ouch, I handed in the towel at the start of turn 2. Nic pretty much tabled me without many losses.

Nic's list was;
Sammael on corvex
2 units of 3 ravenwing knights
3 units of 6 ravenwing with power weapon and 2 plasmaguns and attack bike with multimelta
1 land speeder with 2 heavy flames
1 nephilim fighter

Once we had finished we reworked it to drop the fighter and replace it with 2 units of 5 marines with missile launchers and flak missiles for anti air as the fighter was really unimpressive.
My list was my standard cam, lord on bike 3 units of marines, 2 obliterators, 2 heldrakes, 2 maulerfiends.

The scout moves really did Nic a service as he was in striking range for all units before turn one (we were playing purge the alien, kill points)

I'm really proud of the list actually as it seems really solid and capable, despite the total beating I received.

Sorry about the lack of pictures we only thought of it part way through the game.

making progress...

Yep. getting there:

Rich and Big Dave Internet Stars! Battlefield Autopsy: Dark Angels vs. Dark Eldar (Dark Angels Week)

And here we have it, Dave and Rich as the Stars of the Net!

While i like the show, i have to say i would like to feel that the Beasts of War guys were a bit more knowledgeable than they appear. But saying that they have a lot to learn and report on, so i will give them a break.

However, Dear Gods are the You Tube commentators Ass*&% whine whine whine! if i meet them i feel like smacking them with a brick.

I will have to talk to Big Dave and see if we can get more E.L.F on the Beast of War channel

(at least Dave's painting guides are being well received, despite more Whining)

Building mecgarachnids!

Now that Wayland have finally delivered my Tyranids and Will has allowed me to decimate his bitz box I have finally been able to begin my Megarachnid force... and slice straight in to my thumb!

Ever cut your thumb and thought 'Hmm, that felt deep'? I did.
Even with this minor set back (I had taken a slice out of my other hand the day before making a roast dinner so felt like a right burke) I soldiered to produce my Truanid Prime.

More painting!

Yes it's me again. With a new Deamon engine for all, my second forge fiend is done. Opinions? Hugs?

Scratching my head..

http://www.3plusplus.net/2013/01/kill-zones-40k-shooting-post-faq/

It took me several read throughs and i needed to go back and reference the big book and read the comments, but i think i get it now.

but boy, is that a clusterfuck of an errata or what.

More painting!

Here we go the latest piece for my iron warriors, helldrake number 2. Se basic details and a new pilot has really moved it to fit in with chaos army, rather than look like a dark angel model painted silver.

So what do people think?

gaming in a winter wonderland!

Sop it's been nearly a month since we had a Friday Night Gaming at E.L.F and that just won't do! So with that in mind I decided that it would be best to organise it on one of the days of the year when all of Britain goes bat-sh*t-crazy over a bit of snow! that didn't stop us so we cracked out some of our favourite games for a snowy treat.

No your eyes do not deceive you, it is Shadows over Camelot!

Reading the new FAQ's

Well just had a look at the new FAQ's, some god some bad, (loving the Helldrakes now more than ever!)

However....

As for the Dark Angel Codex FAQ, just from the number of tpyos (deliberate), can i say this. ARE GW F*&£*&G STUPID? some of these mistake are ridiculous, adding wargear, removing rules from units, i mean come on, did anyone bother to read it before they sent it to the printers?

Only good thing is it show the benefit of buying the digital copy, at least yours is always up to date.

(it did make it funny reading about people playing games where one persons brand new hardback rules were different from someone else's digital rules).

Since i'm getting an iPad soon this might well be the last Book i buy from GW for a While.

lamenting the fortunes of the dark kin.

Im trying to make this a constructive deconstruction and not a whinge, if it reads like a whinge, sorry! No-one likes a bad beats story.

So! Had a game last night against the new dark angels, got pasted pretty bad again. thus here follows some thoughts, input from the comments is more than welcome, nay encouraged!

Tip toeing back to the painting bureau and delving into the Horus Heresy!

So it has been a while since I have done any painting due to all the Christmas fun and School work. I had hoped to be modelling and painting my Megarachnids but due to Wayland games terrible service I'm still waiting for it to be even posted after a week and a half. So I got on with building up the yellow on my Blood Angel Bikers.
Yeah I know it's not impressive but these things take time!

playing some doubles games: game 2

After a break for luncheon, we swapped the teams up and had another game.
This time myself and Tom's Space Marine crusade lists got a run out, making for a proper heresy-fest!

playing some doubles: game 1...

Myself, Dave, Tom and Pete braved the cold and getting up before midday on a Sunday to take a little jaunt over to tabletop nation yesterday to get a few games in.

We managed to squeeze 2 doubles games in using the standard missions in the rulebook in the time we were there, myself and tom got to run out both halves of our crusade lists, Pete and Dave just fielded some 750 point lists.
Heres a report with pics from the first!

Reading Januarys Digi White Dwarf

Having been somewhat un-impressed with 'all-new' white dwarfs second issue, i decided to skip last months hobbit-overload issue and dive back in for January with a more 40k centric issue.

This wont be too in depth, ive only read the bits that looked interesting to read. which, in all honesty, wasnt much.

On the Painting table....

Well I've had an interesting week. I've been off for most of it with. Bruised rib thanks to going out on New Year's Eve. But on a positive I've got loads of painting done,

behold my new chaos lord on bike, 'The Lord of Obilterators'.

I've also finished my forge fiend and hell drake and 2 Deamon princes. Now to move on to my deamons and some inquisitor waveband figures.

Will get some pics of my finished crusade army's soon as well

Working on Crusade armies

As promised, a few piccies of the clutter on my painting station currently, and the two lists im planning on using.

Visiting a game store in Preston

With my in laws living up in the sunny north of England I often have the opportunity to visit games stores I normally wouldn't travel to. So it transpired during my recent shopping trip with my wife and niece to Preston I found some time to pop in to Worthy Gaming. But is it worthy of our patronage or just another sweaty gamer hole?

Thinking up lists for the Pre-Heresy event!

So with just over a month to go until the E.L.F Crusade Campaign weekend it is time to work out which lists to take. With only 750 points to spend on the army and only access to a max of 2 Troops, 1 HQ, Elites, Fast Attack and Heavy Support lets see what sort of theme lists I can make.
