Thinking up lists for the Pre-Heresy event!

So with just over a month to go until the E.L.F Crusade Campaign weekend it is time to work out which lists to take. With only 750 points to spend on the army and only access to a max of 2 Troops, 1 HQ, Elites, Fast Attack and Heavy Support lets see what sort of theme lists I can make.

First list: Blood Angel Strike Force

Assault squad ‘Devarus’
10 men with Jump Packs, CCWs, Bolt Pistols, Frag & Krak Grenades, Thunder Hammer, 2 Flamers

Terminator Squad ‘Larenzia’
5 men with Power fists (Sergeant with Power Weapon) and Storm Bolters, Cyclone Missile Launcher

Vindicator
Demolisher cannon, Storm Bolter

Baal Predator
Twin-linked Assault Cannons, Heavy Bolter Sponsons

First thing you'll notice is no HQ, not a requirement for the doubles event and through the test games I noticed that marine lists can end up pretty bland and small when you add in a HQ which often doesn't add more than another unit would. As the Assault squad can combat squad this allows for a little more flexibility if the army needs to hold multiple objectives. Terminators are a must in any Marine army in 6th Edition (or at least a unit with a 2+ save) as you now need a specialised weapon or a lot of fire power to get through the armour. The vehicles are included for crowd control and Terminator removal. Unfortunately, To get any theme into this amy I'd have to use the Forgeworld marines in the early armour types and although they are cool, I already have too many marines to paint. So it gets the minimum Theme score of 1 and a Fun score of 3.

Second list: Nurgle Daemon Host of Davin

Eugen Temba, Conduit of the Plague God
Great Unclean One with Noxious Touch, Breath of Chaos and Cloud of Flies

Bridge Crew, Bearers of the Zombie Plague
14 Plaguebearers with plague swords

The Plague Tide
5 Nurgling bases

Aesthema, Scion of the Plaguefather
Daemon Prince with Mark of Nurgle, Cloud of Flies, Noxious Touch, Breath of Chaos,Daemonic Flight, Iron Hide and Unholy Might

This list is designed to use the models I have in my collection that are already painted enough for me to use if I don't find the time to finish them. They did come painted-ish when I got them on Ebay so it could work but I have to admit I'd rather have them all looking consistent. The Nurglings can't score which is a real draw back but they are the best tar pit in the game for their points cost and they add diversity so I have to have them. On its own it's pretty tripe but hopefully the Monstrous Creatures would be the hammer to the anvil of the other army. Theme score: 2.5 Fits the background but only really in naming the units. Fun score: 2.5 the MC's are great fun but the deployment rules are frustrating and the Bearers are just crunch at anything other than sitting on objectives.

List three: Adeptus Mechanicus Explorator Fleet (Imperial Guard codex)

Magos Sporex Trahn, Commmand Node ‘HA13.C.2-Omicron’
Techpriest Enginseer, Power armour, Laspistol, Power Axe, Servo-arm, Frag & Krak grenades 4 x Servitors with Servo-arms

Skitari ‘HA13.C.2-U1PL’ - Red squad
Veterans squad with Carapace armour, 3 x Plasma gun

Infantry support vehicle ‘HA13.C.2-V1CMHB’
Chimera with Multi Laser, Heavy Bolter

Skitari ‘HA13.C.2-U1MG’ - Orange squad
Veterans squad with Carapace armour, Power fist, 3 x Meltagun,

Infantry support vehicle ‘HA13.C.2-V1CMHF’
Chimera with Multi Laser, Heavy Flamer

Legio Cybernetica, Crusader Pattern ‘HA13.C.2-SU1LCCP’
2 Scout Sentinels with Multilaser

Artillery support vehicle ‘HA13.C.2-V1LMHB’
Leman Russ with Battle Cannon, Hull Heavy Bolter, Heavy Bolter sponsons

This list should work pretty well in conjunction with the other army, especially if it is an aggressive Space Marine list. The Hq is all theme and no punch. I really wouldn't want to be twined with a list that didn't have a HQ choice as the Engineseer as the Warlord would be a waste of a Warlord Trait (not to mention the easiest Slay the Warlord objective ever). I aim to get a Forgeworld Tech priest (far superior to the GW metal ones and not a huge differance in price) and use my Pit Slave model from the previous events Merc units as Servitors. The units won't be painted in Mechanicus red but with the Vets and vehicles it feels right to me so it gets a Theme score of 3.5. Fun Score: 3.5 Lots of different elements should make it stand up against better armies but the lack of combat effective units will mean it relies on the partner army.

List four: Megarachnid Clutter

Megarachnid Mygalomorphae
Tyranid Prime, Bonded Exoskeleton, Lash Whip & Bonesword, Deathspitter, Toxin Sacs

Megarachnid Araneae Cluster
5 Tyranid Warriors with Scything Talons, Hardened Crarpace, Boneswords, Toxin Sacs

Magarachnid Avicularia Cluster
20 Gargoyles with Blinding Venom, Chitin, Claws & Teeth, Fleshborer, Wings, Toxin Sacs

Megarchnid Clutterqueen
Tyrannofex, Armoured Shell, Claws & Teeth, Electroshock grubs, Cluster Spines, Rupture Cannon

This is a list I have wanted to put together since I first read Horus Rising all those years ago. The conversion opportunities are great and allows me to look at including models from games that I don't play but really want to paint (Arachnarok Spider?). I am really struggling for a colour scheme that will allow an organic/metallic hybrid. It's similar in problems to my Daemon list with it only having one Troops unit but from a Theme point of view the Megarachnids were large creatures so Gaunts don't work for me and they are so cheap I'd need to paint a lot more models ( I want to focus on getting the standard as high as possible in the time I have). Theme score: 4.5 With the modelling I plan to put into the army I only hold back the full 5 because a couple of units were added in that weren't in the book to make the army/modelling more fun. Fun Score: 4 I can't wait to see Pre-Heresy Marines die to the blades of a Megarachnid but can see how the army is going to suffer if it is twinned with a list that doesn't have some decent shooting.

Well those are my lists from the armies that I will be bringing with me/lending out to people who need them. The strange thing is I will only be playing if the numbers require it. I'll post up my progress and look forward to see what other people have come up with!

  2. Cheers chief, there is another list for the Necrons: Destroyer Lord, 2 x 10 warriors, 8 scarabs, Monolith. It's rubbish on both theme and fun so didn't stick it on the post. Looking forward to seeing what you've come up with.
